Endeavored to constant learning and turning limitation into opportunity, Sam enjoys every day in the practice of architecture. Every project has a new set of unknown problems to discover, priorities to meet, and peculiarities to exploit. Success in such comes from teams that trust each other and improve together – clients, contractors, designers, and engineers each play a vital role.
Sam received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Utah. He has a background in construction and has worked for small and large firms in custom residential, multi-family, adaptive and historic reuse, commercial, retail, industrial, educational, religious, civic, and Architect-as-Developer typologies. He has played a crucial role as Project Architect and Project Manager in award-winning projects from off-grid residences to K-12 schools.
With a passion for architectural education, Sam returned to his alma mater as an Instructor at the School of Architecture and enjoys volunteering at various institutions as a guest presenter and juror. Education as well as design practice is a dance of expertise and empathy, precision and creativity. As a Living Futures and a WELL Accredited Professional Sam has a vision and passion for optimizing buildings, environments, and communities with passive and active strategies. As Sir Winston Churchill said, “We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.”
